it’s time for some auburn football
well it’s that time of year again, fall and football at the holcombe household. the first weekend of college football starts this weekend. i’m a huge auburn football fan as is the rest of my family. well all except for my husband billy. he is a georgia fan, but i still love him. although i’ll be in washington dc this weekend on my annual girl’s trip(YAY!), i’ll still be getting regular updates on the scores from my husband who will be in charleston for his annual guys football kick-off trip.
this post is dedicated to auburn and to the wonderful color combination of orange and blue. i don’t suggest designing a home or room around a sports team but auburn is fortunate enough to have great school colors…orange and blue. take a look at all the photos i found of homes designed with this color scheme.
this bedroom was designed by anna spiro author of the blog absolutely beautiful things.

i thought i’d start doing a blog every friday about the things i’m loving during the week. maybe it will be blogs i’ve read about or furniture pieces i saw online. i’ll figure it out as i go. so here’s the first “what i’m loving this week…” list.
1. cool asian style hardware from lee valley & veritas. spotted it at the elements of style blog
and erin gates, author of elements of style spotted it here in sabrina linn’s loft featured in canadian house & home
2. this new vanity stool from wisteria.
3. new lucite fruit from urban barn
4. sheesham birds from west elm

gorgeous ceramic garden stools from overstock.com
christian may over at maison21 just posted a blog that you can find here and he included a picture and link to an overstock garden stool.
i went to the link and in the right-hand column were 6 other gorgeous garden stools at very reasonable prices. all of them between $90 and $160.
i’m crazy about the cane pattern right now so this one is my favorite.
design within reach knock-offs
i have always thought that dwr should stand for design that’s way out of reach instead of design within reach. i love the store but i’ve never been able to afford anything. thinking about this i went looking for some affordable knock-offs to a few of their most recognizable pieces. i found some amazing deals on overstock.com and eurway.com.
my favorite find is the louis ghost armchair(set of 2)
dwr - $820
overstock - $329
dwr’s price for their le klint pendant actually isn’t quite cringe worthy, but i did find one for more than half of the price at eurway.
dwr - $435
eurway – $126.50
i found this knock-off of knoll’s bertoia diamond lounge chair at overstock. while the knock-off doesn’t quite look like it was manufactured according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer harry bertoia (like the dwr chair is), it could definitely suffice until you could save up for dwr’s chair.
eames molded plastic rocker
dwr - $479
overstock - $159
eileen gray side table
dwr - $550
overstock - $124
here’s another one of my favorites and i was really excited about the price of the knock-off. It looks like the knock-off has a brushed chrome finish instead of the bright chrome like dwr’s.
arco floor lamp
dwr - $2,696
eurway - $407.15
the 1006 navy® barstool knock-off that i found is a little bit of a stretch but it is still all metal like the original.
dwr - $650
eurway - $262.65
zero table
dwr - $1,400
eurway - $305.15
as for quality, you may want to stick with dwr. i’m not sure if these knock-offs would stand the test of time. they would certainly do until you could save up your money for the originals though. :o)

great new antique store
when i used to work at beazer interior design for beazer homes all the designers used this great antique store called the $99 store. they had some great stuff and some not so great stuff but all of it was priced at $99. sometimes you could find some awesome pieces of antique furniture. one day they closed their store and no one knew if they were going to reopen in another location or if they were closed for good. my friend katie called me yesterday to let me know that she had found the store again! they’ve reopened in a new location in cumming, ga. they aren’t called the $99 store anymore they are called extreme wholesale. they don’t have a website but they are located at 2480 Industrial Park Blvd in Cumming.
if you visit them make sure you wear some sturdy shoes(i wouldn’t recommend sandals) and pants. the aisles are really small and you literally have to crawl over furniture to see what all they have. be prepared to dig. there are piles and piles of antiques. take a look at this photo i took of a pile of chairs that they have.
here’s another one from a different pile
they don’t just have chairs. they have cute little accent pieces like this antique magazine rack for $136.
they also had these awesome lacquered side tables for $87 each. the tables had a few chips on them but that could be fixed with a little touch up painting.
there was an awesome dressing table that i saw there but i didn’t see a price on it. i’m guessing it would have been in the $100 range compared to the other similar pieces i saw.
they had some beautiful antique mantles. some of them were very intricate and some of them were more shabby chic like this one for $99.
one of the random piles they had was of old ladders and shutters. these would be great corner stuffers for an empty corner.
i found this beautiful antique chippendale secretary for only $99. it was in really great condition and only needs a good cleaning.
here’s a different view of some other piles of furniture.
among this pile i found this beautiful barley twist and cane console table.
they also had a few accessories like these teak bowls($110) and urns($170)
ok, brace yourself, here is the overall shot of the warehouse. and this is only one side of it, but you’ll see why you need to where sturdy shoes when you go there. send me some pics if you come upon a great find. i know you will.
